We made these kits in case you want a gentle alternative to conventional detergent for washing your natural dye clothing and textiles.

All of our garments and textiles are pre-treated with a natural chemical to make sure that the dyes remain colorfast. However, we still need to treat these pieces with a little extra care.

In the case of silk and natural dyes, you never want to wash in extreme temperatures, always tepid or lukewarm water.

The kit includes:

• soap berries

• cotton drawstring bag

How to use:

1. For machine wash, place bag of soap berries into washing machine with your natural dye items.

2. Wash on a delicate cycle using tepid water. If you only have the choice for warm or cold use cold.

3. Air dry.

4. Iron (optional)

This kit is good for about 10-15 washes. When the soap berries become mushy and gray, compost the remains and reuse the cotton bag.

About soap berries: they are a berry from India and Nepal that grow on the Sapindus Mukorossi tree. They contain saponin which cleans fabric but does not produce a foam like other detergents. They are a cousin of the superfood goji berry and have been use in Ayurvedic medicine to treat eczema and psoriasis. This goes along with our philosophy that all items used in your home and on your skin should be not only non-toxic, but beneficial and medicinal when possible. Most items we are washing do not need harsh chemicals to get clean, and often the detergents we use can be harmful to our clothing, our internal and external health, and the environment.
