Join Flower Dye founder Susanna Taylor for a two part natural dye series! You will get years of knowledge packed into two sessions. In this program you will learn to create vibrant, lasting textile color from flowers, food waste, medicinal kitchen ingredients, and traditional dyes used throughout history. You will receive a materials list once you sign up. You can choose to dye along with Susanna during the live class or take notes and experiment afterwards. You will have access to the video after the class.

Week 1 (Rescheduling to a date TBD): You will learn the basics of natural dyeing and more~

  • which fabrics to use for natural dyeing

  • how to prepare fabric for dyeing

  • how to mordant each type of fabric correctly

  • how to make a natural dye bath

  • overview of a range of colors you can create

  • different tie dye and shibori techniques to create patterns on your fabric

  • how to care for your naturally dyed textiles and clothing

Week 2 (date TBD):

  • I will answer questions submitted after the first session

  • How to care for your natural dye textiles

  • And anything we didn’t cover in week 1!

About Susanna: She has been working with natural dyes professionally for 7 years, but got her first taste of natural dyes when she studied abroad in the Brazilian Amazon at 21 and did her final project on How Colors Are Made with a rural indigenous river town of basket weavers and natural dyers. She has since studied natural color at FIT, the Textile Arts Center, and in Oaxaca, Mexico. She has taught workshops from NYC to LA. She has partnered with brands such as Reformation, New Balance, and Edie Parker, and taught workshops at a variety of innovative locations from The Brooklyn Grange to The Alchemist’s Kitchen, Arlo Hotel to Free Verse Farm. Her aim is always to connect people to nature and themselves through the power of beauty and color.
